My go to Lady… Kuan Yin, Divine Mother of Mercy and Compassion

Posted by on May 6, 2016 in Feminine Mysteries ~ Divine Sexuality, Heart Centered Awareness, Pathways to Awakenings, Womens Empowerment | 0 comments

Mother’s day can often bring up a host of feelings. For some, it brings a sense of joy, gratitude, and love.

Yet, for many it activates feelings of grief, anger, abandonment… a deep longing for the Mother that never was, and never will be that which was internalized, and yearned for by the younger, tender parts who live within us.

I have discovered in my own life, and the lives of the women I have worked with, that it can be very healing, nourishing, and transforming to have a relationship to something greater than our personal sense, and experience of mother.

We no longer need to be daughters in waiting to be held, and loved unconditionally. Nor do we need to project our need for mother onto others to nurture, and give the younger tender parts from earlier stages of development the love they seek.

We can compassionately re-mother ourselves when we consciously open our hearts to the healing energies of a spiritual mother. I experienced her from Kuan Yin.

We “met” 23 years ago at a residential heart-awakening initiation conference. Within the circular conference space, sacred objects, and statues of deities from diverse cultures were beautifully placed on surrounding altars. I was completely unfamiliar with most everything displayed.

Yet, I was continuously drawn to a large, beautiful, bronze, regal appearing feminine form, gracefully seated on a lotus blossom. Curious, I finally asked the conference assistant about this mysterious statue. She directed me to Anna, a lovely woman from Hong Kong.

Graciously, Anna answered my inquiry. She reverently transmitted to me, her love, and knowledge of this beloved, Chinese Goddess, Kuan Yin, “Mother of Mercy and Compassion, who hears the cries of the world”, revered by millions, particularly women.

13164268_1004266376331080_3515836679053462261_nAs I listened, I felt a sensation, a quickening in my heart, and whole being. Later, I came to understand this spontaneous, visceral response was my soul speaking…telling me I had met my “go to Lady.”

One year later, I received a badly damaged package from Hong Kong. I hoped whatever it contained wasn’t breakable, if it was, it surely would not be in one piece!

To my absolute amazement, within this tattered/semi crushed box, was an exquisite, delicate porcelain statue of Kuan Yin. Unbroken. A gift from Anna, who I hadn’t seen or talked with since the conference.

I was in awe, and filled with gratitude to be so unexpectedly blessed. Kuan Yin entered my home, and my heart.

She is a visible symbol that gives form to an invisible energy. She represents unconditional love, compassion, and healing…the emanation of the Divine Mother. I center in my heart , and call upon Her in times of need, comfort, challenge, gratitude…

She is my go to Lady. For myself, my loved ones, all sentient beings, and our beloved world in desperate need.

And I am her go to Lady, to serve as an embodiment of Her Love…
Mother’s Day blessings of love to you…

With heart,

Bring Back #Goddess

Posted by on Sep 15, 2015 in Feminine Mysteries ~ Divine Sexuality, Heart Centered Awareness, Pathways to Awakenings, Psychology of Selves, Women's Sacred Community | 1 comment

In July, Instagram made the decision to remove #Goddess. Apparently there was content, particularly nudity,  that violated Instagram’s community policies.

In response,  an uproar of objection, and commentary ensued, including the campaign, Bring Back #Goddess.

Many felt this was a direct, negative bias towards the empowerment of women, discriminatory, and a violation of religious freedom, noting #God was not removed.

Online essays educated readers on the veneration of the Goddess across history, and culture by millions of people.  Others shared the healing/empowering significance of the Goddess as a psycho-spiritual archetype, relevant to women’s lives today.  All passionate contributions to “Bring Back #Goddess”.

When I reflect on the campaign, there is a quickening within , an instant recognition of a larger force beyond personal agendas propelling this cause.

What I deeply sense, and hear beneath the surface, “Bring Back #Goddess“, is the presence, and voice of Sophia/Wisdom.

With social media as Her holy mouth piece, She sends out Her vital plea…an urgent call, to bring back to a world in desperate need, the life nourishing, healing, and transforming qualities, and values of the indwelling Feminine… #Goddess.

I believe, it is essential to begin the work of bringing Her back, by opening our hearts to Her sacred ways of…

Unconditional love, compassion, nurturing, receptivity, beauty, instinct, feeling, being, stillness, creativity, sacred sexuality, embodied wisdom, natural power, harmony, vulnerability, interconnectedness, relatedness, presence, reverence for the earth, and all of Creation.

Rather than only conceptual understanding, She calls us to awaken, embody, and express #Goddess in our lives, and out into the yearning world.

Who knows, perhaps one day, #God will unite with Her in the center of our hearts, and we will then know Heaven on Earth, and the peace beyond all understanding.

Unveiling the Goddess Within ~ Kate’s Story, part 2

Posted by on Apr 24, 2012 in Body Centered Awareness, Feminine Mysteries ~ Divine Sexuality, Women's Sacred Community | 0 comments

(This is Part 2 of 2, to read Part 1 of Kate’s journey, click here.)

“We have come to be danced, not the nice invisible, self-conscious shuffle,
but the matted hair flying, voodoo mama shaman shakin’ ancient bones dance,
the strip us from our casings, return our wings,
sharpen our claws, and tongues dance,
the shed dead cells, and slip into the luminous skin of love dance.”
~Jewel Mathieson

Kate’s next courageous awakening steps were dancing steps…

‘Dancing Women’ by Kate Bradley, inspired by her dance experience at the Soul Sister’s Gathering

In every soul sister’s gathering, women are invited into sacred dance, a free form of expression…
a dynamic meditation, choreographed by each woman’s own body, heart, soul, and spirit…
breath by breath, moment to moment…
supported by a diverse range of music, and tempo to facilitate our ever-changing dance of becoming.

The Dance of Bliss…

Kate shared that whenever she would dance alone, she always felt self conscious. However, through the experience of being a part of, and held in the soul sister’s sacred circle of unconditional love and acceptance, something magical happened that she had never experienced before…

Dancing really took away a lot of my self consciousness…. I had the opportunity to express myself in words… but it was really the dancing that took it away..(her self consciousness)

Nobody was judging anybody, and we were at all different levels of expressing ourselves with our body.

I was so closed off prior to that in expressing any kind of movement…and then being as large as I was…and then being accepted… Oh, nobody is criticizing me!

I would have to say it was my first experience to be abandoned…to know what that is…

I watched Kate pause, seemingly dipping back into the energy of when she completely surrendered to the dance, fully in the moment,  unfettered,  free and passionately alive in her body…  a timeless state of bliss that permeated every cell, and every aspect of her being…

O body swayed to music,
O brightening glance,
How can we know the dancer
from the dance?
~Wm. Yeats

Radiant, Kate went on to say she had been particularly moved by Sarah,  one of the women in the circle, who she felt had a “gift” for dancing, and freely expressing herself.

In the witnessing of, and being in the stream of Sarah’s dancing energy, Kate felt ever more inspired, and inducted into the freedom of her own dance.

She described connecting to her body with deepening curiosity and wonder,  shifting more and more from self consciousness, to self embodied awareness…

“to take an arm…ah, it can move that way,
now the hip…didn’t use that part of my body before,
…looking forward to more of that expression…
kicks in another ear…experimentation leads to an understanding
…mechanical at first…then filters in, sifts down and goes inward
…my arm can twist that way.
What is there in the inside that can be twisted, or explored?
I don’t have to be locked into any one expression…
the dance loosened up my psyche.

Kate discovered  as she connected to each body part, it led her deeper into her dance, and into herSelf, and to the awakening revelation that she didn’t have to be ‘locked into any one expression’!

The dance ‘loosened’ up her psyche, a shake, rattle and roll, on every level of her being, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

She continued to say…

First, getting your teaching auditorially,
…then it filtered down, into all the inners…
then it worked it back up as Kundalini, (the divine feminine creative life force) completely organically.

This is the embodied awakening way,
shifting from only conceptual understanding to experiential wisdom,
a direct, in the body experience…
a living breathing process,
where true transformation, integration, and healing begins.

Kate’s inner transformation becomes the catalyst for outer transformation

Kate  expressed the Soul sister’s gathering was the catalyst for

“shedding the cocoon of weight, 130 pounds.”

“Unveiling the Goddess Within”

Being fully supported in a women’s sacred community makes possible what we cannot do alone.

Unveiled to see herself,
and to be seen,
with unconditional love
and acceptance as she was,
and in her essence…
a natural metamorphosis occurred from deep within,
Kate’s protective cocoon of weight began to shed,
…She was ready to spread her wings!
“Spontaneous resources and unexpected ways of wisdom are always available when women gather heart to heart, soul to soul, in the spirit of of love and mutual empowerment.”
~janis deluca awakenings

Discovering the joy of feeling alive in her body, and the power of community, Kate eventually joined weight watchers, and developed a daily exercise practice.

She began with walking until she found, much to her surprise, she preferred running.   To date she has shed 130 pounds and is training to run her second half-marathon!

Now this is one inspiring “gutsy” Goddess!

There are countless ways in which Kate’s life has transformed, deepened and expanded…and continues to, in her dance of ceaseless becoming.

The beautiful threads of her story so richly contribute to the universal tapestry of sisterhood that connects us all.

One thing I know for sure is that the Divine Feminine Creative Energy within Kate can easily be seen and felt as it flows onto the canvas, and into her amazing stone carvings.

Unveiling the Goddess Within ~ Kate’s Story

Posted by on Apr 11, 2012 in Body Centered Awareness, Feminine Mysteries ~ Divine Sexuality, Women's Sacred Community | 0 comments

“When we soulfully share together as women,
we inspire and are inspired,
we nourish and are nourished,
we empower and are empowered…
weaving a beautiful tapestry of sisterhood
with the threads of our stories.”
~janis deluca awakenings~

It was several years ago when I met Kate, who was in the throws of navigating through a major life transition.  Kate was one of 17 women who joined us in soulful sisterhood, eager to embrace her story and journey on.

Recently, I reconnected with Kate and she shared with me that the circle of soul sisters some years ago was the catalyst for change that inspired her life in the direction it continues to take today.

I asked Kate if she’d feel willing to share her story with the Awakenings readers, she was honored…and the rest unfolds below.

We settled into our cozy corner at the Harmony Cafe.  Kate, positively glowing, flowed effortlessly into her recall.

I invite you to listen, as I listened, with deep appreciation, and reverence for the beauty of her story…

Kate’s Story

She had been recently divorced, beginning to find her way back to herSelf and was becoming more comfortable with expressing her unique gifts as an innovative artist and creative woman.

I was deeply moved as Kate reflected on and shared what happened the day her divorce was finalized…

“I left the courthouse and immediately went to the DMV to change my drivers license to take my maiden name back.  I walked through the parking lot to cross the street.  As I stepped up onto the curb, I saw something flash before my eyes, and blow off in the wind.  I realized it was a veil, whipping away.”

With tears welling up in her eyes, she said,

“it was emancipation… feelings of emancipation, feelings of strength, faith, and knowledge in knowing I could do it.”

Kate’s experience of a veil whipping away, is a powerful and timeless motif of the casting off of old and false identities, old illusions, and beliefs…masks, and worn out roles.

What a beautiful vision and affirmation from her soul, given to her just as she crossed the street, and stepped onto the curb…a symbolic act of crossing a threshold, stepping through a gateway to new possibilities, potential, resources…

Feeling liberated, and empowered from within, Kate was ready to take the next courageous steps in her awakening journey.

“Life Transitions are Sacred Gateways
to knowing & becoming your Whole Woman Self
with more love and more compassion”
~janis deluca awakenings~

Sacred Steps to Awakening…

One of those steps was taking her place in a circle of soul sisters at my annual women’s winter series. I was instantly touched by Kate’s authenticity.  She was so present to herself, to the circle, and to what was being offered.  She allowed herself to be seen and to feel.  When I expressed this to Kate she replied,

“It was easy to be, because it (the circle) was so accepting. You knew it (anything she shared)  would be held in confidence, it enabled me to open up more.

I credit your work, and camaraderie, and all the energies to moving me forward in my life…in my own expression.  I think of it so often.

Getting permission from everybody, that whatever you want’s ok…such a variety of so many different women in all different stages of their life…and finding out whatever I was going through was acceptable.  I wasn’t so different.

The love and the energy catapulted me to moving on, separating the chafe from the chaste.”

Kate shared that the feeling and experience of the “veil whipping off” continued to come back to her over and over again, throughout the souls sister’s series, particularly when learning about the goddesses.

“I was impressed with goddesses as guides. I was really taken with Inanna.  Her form, the full breasts, hands underneath…

Goddess Innana

The Goddess is not like a fairy tale, beautiful hair and body..perfect skin…She is just so gutsy! “

Inspired by the Great Goddess

Kate, like myself, and many women have found inspiration from stories and images from  the time of antiquity when the deity was revered in Feminine form, and known as the Great Goddess.

Often in my work I will draw on, and induct women into the feminine world myths, and the qualities and images of the many aspects of the Goddess.

Rather than relating to these images as expressions of religious belief, we dynamically experience them as spiritual and psychological patterns/energies, and truths that mirror our own feminine nature, giving meaning to our lives, and the universality of our experiences as women.

Kate discovered rather than an airbrushed illusion of perfection and beauty that our culture is so saturated with, the images and qualities of the goddesses reflect and validate the authentic power, wisdom, and beauty of women’s indwelling divine nature, and feminine form.

So inspired by the image of the Great Sumerian Goddess, Inanna , Kate immediately went out and purchased two pendants that were designed in her form.

Clearly Inanna is a reflection of, and was an awakening of Kate’s own “gutsy” feminine nature…  ending a marriage, forging out on her own,  and opening ever more fully to her juicy, divine creative energy!
